Great pattern to make cute ribbed pumpkins. Love it!

Started on this a couple days ago with smaller needles (US6) and was somehow doing the increases wrong. The whole thing was tight and making my hands hurt. I am determined to knit this cute pumpkin! Abandoned the first pumpkin and started over last night with US7 and doing increases correctly. Much better. Got half way through the pattern.
I use magic loop. In my opinion, the only way to knit in the round. Double points require way too much needle management. So if you’re a magic looper, go ahead and do so. However, if I were going to try magic loop for the first time, this wouldn’t be the project to start on. Try it on a hat first.
I hadn’t really looked at the leaves in this pattern until now. Nope those are not how pumpkin leaves look. Just a generic oval leaf. I guess I won’t bother knitting any leaves from this pattern.

Finished my pumpkin today. Had a quick photo shoot in my garden using the squash vines as a setting. I couldn’t resist.
The only mod I did was to knit one plain round after switching to orange yarn. Just easier and neater that way. The extra round is undetectable.

Pumpkin No. 2
Decided to knit a white pumpkin. I hope I have enough yarn. I knit to row 22 and used 1/3 of the yarn. Fingers crossed.

US8 metal cubics needle
Purl Soho Plenty in Heirloom White for the pumpkin
edit: plus Purl Soho Plenty in Lilac Quartz for bottom of pumpkin
US9 wooden cubics

White pumpkin done. I didn’t have enough of the white yarn to finish. I got about 2/3 of the way done and ran out of white. I tried a couple of other yarns in a white/natural and they didn’t work. So I used a bit of the same yarn (Purl Soho Plenty) in a different color way (Lilac Quartz). Once I had the right yarn, all was well and I was able to finish.
I forgot to note on the first pumpkin, but for both I cut an extra long tail at the end. I tacked down a stitch on each ruffle valley all the way around the pumpkin. Pattern instructs you to repeat once or twice. I think it helps the ribs to pop more if you do it to all the valleys.
My white pumpkin being bigger, I wasn’t able to use a standard tapestry needle to go through the height of the pumpkin. I used an upholstery needle instead. This worked perfectly. They are so handy to have around if you make stuffed toys.
