Notes

After knitting “the Shire” sweater for my husband, which was bottom up and in pieces, I decided to do this project top down. Top down is just a cleaner knit with less finish work. Also, I want a more fitted neck. My husband will not wear a wide turtle neck that is a feature in the original pattern.

I have a whole bunch of Continga in my stash, so I am using this yarn.

I’m using a us#8 needle on the black and going up to a #9 on the stranding. I found that the pattern fit in most of my yoke, not leaving much pattern work on the body. My husband is tall so I have 18” to knit from the armpit to hem. I also am knitting in a ten stitch gusset in the under arms and body.

I used: Jeny’s surprisingly stretchy bind off from the “Sockhead Cowl” pattern, which I am also knitting. It adds a yarn over in the bind off making it a good bind off for the ribbing an neck. My husband requested a roll neck.

I’m starting on an arm 12/12/2019.

12-12-2019

77 stitches for the neck.

Sleeves 79 stitches + 10 stitches for underarm gusset. I decreased the arm to 49 stitches, did wave pattern. I plan on decreasing by 3 stitches, making the cuff 46 stitches. I plan on using a us#6 needle for this 2” ribbing.

For the end of the sleeve, I did the wave pattern plus another small pattern. My husband has long arms. These patterns I had 49 stitches, decreased one stitch to 48 for cuff. I ended up knitting rib on a #7.
