Inspired to try this by a great knitting friend, Wendy, who has been knitting throws in various colourways for her family. She has made them up in diamond shapes 200 pieces per throw approx but I could not face the sewing up so have chosen to try something similar in granny squares. Great fun searching for yarns in all the right shades and seeing how they go together.
I have used big hooks for DK deliberately in order to achieve a more flexible crocheted fabric - hope it will work?

Have made nearly 60 squares now and they look OK together. Decided to edge them all in white to contrast with the colours and will probably join them in white too.

Only 10 squares left to do now and then decisions about how to organise them. Can’t wait to get that done and start sewing up - found an interesting pattern on Ravelry with info about reverse mattress stitch for joining motifs. Think I am going to try that as I don’t want ridges.

Only 3 vertical seams to go now before I can begin the edging - haven’t quite decided on the colours or stitches for the edge but it will feel good to reach that stage!

All joined up now and spent about 3 hrs last night on a very pretty shell edging which I had seen online. This morning however it just didn’t look right so have frogged it and I’ll settle for a combination of dcs and trs with a round of crab stitch to finish off - if I can still do it! Why does crab stitch catch me out every time??

Hooray! I finished the edging last night and am much happier with it now - had to check crab stitch online but got it in the end. Just need to take some photos now.
