For lining I just take a strip of fleece, 2.5 or 3 inches wide, put it around my head to decide how long it should be, cut it, hand sew (tack) it in with thread that matches the yarn. It’s really easy and gives hats that extra softness, especially if the yarn is a bit wooly. I also always do it when I accidentally make a hat slightly bigger than I wanted. But in this case it was because I used Woolease, which is not exactly soft. If you want to do a full lining inside there are some great youtube videos.
