Notes

This project was the result of a dyeing experiment that I did using Wilton’s Gel “Violet” food color. I first knit up this skein into a round tube using a child’s knitting machine to form a long ‘blank’, then dip-dyed it into a gradient by “breaking” the colors in the violet dye into their component colors. The basic idea is that the red in the violet strikes first, and if the blank is dip-dyed slowly, the red will strike on the bottom of the blank, and then as you continue dip-dying, there is less and less red available and more and more blue, thus forming the gradient. Great fun to do the dyeing. I wanted a simple pattern stitch that would use up all of the skein while showing the gradient. I think this pattern worked well. I did 4 A repeats, and 4.5 B repeats. I also used Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy bind off. Thank you Aline for the nice pattern! Finished measurements 9 1/2” X 32”.
