I’m making this sweater as part of Lisa’s class at Sifu Design Studio, and I’m super stoked. It will be my first time doing intarsia, and my first time doing a seamed sweater. So far, I’ve just swatched and cast on the back panel.
10/21: So far I’ve done the back panel up to the arm hole shaping, and 12 rows of color work on the front panel.
11/5: One sleeve and the back are complete and on the blocking board. I’ve done 38 out of 87 rows of color work. The second sleeve is just started. Getting there! Also, I’ve got to say that working with the mohair is a pain in the butt! But it makes the fabric so soft and cozy.
11/13: Completed the armhole shaping on the front and just a few more rows left of the intarsia chart. I wish I had worked the sleeves two at a time, and I wish I’d been more diligent about keeping track of how many rows I did while working on the back. Hopefully, the pieces match up and it all comes together. I’m going to have a lot of tails to weave in!
11/18: So after receiving lots of help from Lisa, the front panel is complete. Now I just need to weave in the ends, finish my second sleeve, block the pieces, seam it together, pick up stitches around the collar, and add some embroidery. So almost there? It feels kind of like being at mile 20 of a marathon.
12/8: I’ve woven in all of the ends on the front panel, and it’s on the blocking board now. I also worked a bit on the remaining sleeve.
1/12: I put kitty sweater into hibernation for a while, while I worked on Christmas gifts. Now that gifts are complete, I brought it back out. The second sleeve is finished and blocked (though I’m afraid it’s slightly longer than the first one). I’ve started seaming the set in sleeve. This may take some practice.
1/19: Finished today! Did the seaming, collar, and embroidery today. I used back stitch for most of the embroidery, but sort of winged it when it came to the eyes. I know there’s a bunch of imperfections, but I think people will notice the awesomeness of the kitty face more. So happy!
