Long time ago, my Mom made a poncho for my sister Leti. She lives far away from us in The Netherlands, and she had a hard time getting used to the different temperatures…
She LOVED that poncho… It was made using a local black single ply yarn with buttons in the front. She wore it everywhere, and she always talked about how much she wore it and how it kept her warm. Mom and I share a lot of our knitting life, so it made me very happy to hear her say this…

When Mom and I last visited her, we noticed something a knitter can’t stand: the garment was really worn out. The yarn had pilled badly, not because it was a bad quality, but because she had really worn it to death. Mom and I decided we needed to remedy that, so the Boxy Cape came to life.
I had been wanting to design such a piece for a long,, long time! I finally decided what the perfect yarn for this was (you know I have a weakness for Mal Worsted) and we started planning it. We decided we wanted to make it slightly different than the original one, so we didn’t go with black, but we chose a dark navy blue that will be equally easy to wear :)

Hope you enjoy the pattern!!
