I found this to be a quick and addictive project. Once I started, I just couldn’t stop! Liebevoll also taught me several new tricks.
The horizontal cables are easier than they look, I recommend watching Ysoldas videos if you have any problems understanding the pattern - it will all become clear.
In the chart, watch out for line 18, 20 and 24, the closing of the cables are done on the wrong side of the shawl. On line 20, you will have 26 stitches between the decreases, not 23. On line 21 you will have 15 stitches between your cables, not 11.
The chart isn’t wrong, just a bit confusing, I think it all has to do with consecutive stitches inside the repeat box, and what’s outside the repeat-box.
Doing the center panel taught me a new w&t method using a piece of string. The turns were really neat and tidy, and I will definetively use this method again. If you have any problems understanding how to do the short rows, I can recommend this video: http://ysolda.com/blog/2014/1/23/technique-thursday-wrapl....
For the top border you first knit up one side, the the other, so I recommend marking the center loop, that way you don’t have to count so much. To find the center loop just use the top loop of your center circle in the cable pattern and follow the row upwards to the top.
Blocking
I gave the shawl a good soak, and a very light blocking.Iit was more manipulative shaping involved rather than a firm stretching.
