My mother got me a huge cone of wool - 950grams. I have no idea of the make and brand as she picked it up at a thrift shop. The area where she bought it is known for producing wool and textiles, also for the upholstery industry, so I have a feeling this wool was never made for knitting, as it was rather rough to knit. It was probably meant to be a couch or something similar. The upside is that it is incredibly hardy, and can stand some serious wearing! I’ve been wearing this every spring and fall for the last three years, and it still does not show much wear and tear and will most likely last until I’m 90!
As for knitting…
This was one of my first serious sweater projects and I wasn’t completely aware of how precisely one should read instructions… like gauge in seed stitch and stockingnette is not quite the same thing…
So I knit the body of this about half way and then realizing it was too big. So I frogged and downsized again and again. Luckily it still worked! I simply used a smaller size and it worked out fine (a lot of trial and error though)
So yes, I would recommend swatching.
Apart from that it pretty straight forward, a lot of glorious cables. This was definitely the project which made me fall in love with cables .
