http://www.mooglyblog.com/standing-double-crochet-joining/ -- for the start of row two and following.
9/30/15
I am super annoyed with this pattern right now but I love everyone’s results too much to give up. For my own benefit and for future reference, I am going to write this pattern out as I can make sense of it..
Row 1 - With larger hook, foundation single crochet. (80fsc)
Row 2 - Switching to smaller hook, double crochet in every space across (80dc)
Row 3 - Single crochet in first stitch. Chain 3, skip 1 stitch, single crochet in next stitch. Repeat from to last single crochet. (Now here I will say that since I have an even number of fsc, I ended this row with two single crochet. I saw no way around this other than to start with an odd number fsc.) (41 sc, 39 ch 3 spaces)
Row 4 - Dc in first stitch. Dc in chain three space, chain one. Repeat from to last chain three space. Double crochet in last chain three space (do not ch 1), dc in last two stitches. (42 dc, 38 ch 1 sp)
Row 5 - 2 dc in first stitch, skip first ch 1 sp, 4 dc in next ch 1 sp, skip next ch 1 sp. Repeat from to last ch 1 sp. Skip 2 stitches, 2 dc in last stitch. (80 dc, 19 4dc clusters, 2 2dc clusters)
Row 6 - 2 dc in the first stitch. Skip two stitches, 2dc in the next two stitches (which are the center two stitches from the previous row). End with 2dc in the last stitch.
I repeated this order 4 times, for a total of 26 rows. I ended with a row of single crochet followed by a row of double crochet.
I joined the pieces using a slip stitch through the outer edges on the back side.
Filling in the back “V” and then making the neckline truly is freedom in style and mine is definitely not perfect.
All said and done, I do love the outcome. I hope I’m brave enough to wear something so punchy.
