Notes

7/16/10: I’m don’t have a whole lot of this yarn so I’m knitting the smallest size. I got through the brim and first section of the medium size tonight and then ripped it out to make the small size instead. I have no idea if it will fit but if it doesn’t I’m sure I can find someone to give it to.

7/17/10: The smaller size fits nicely so far, although I’m going to be making some mods to insure I don’t run out of yarn. I got most of the way done with the second band of stockinette tonight and ripped it back to the first rib because I got worried about the yardage. I think I’m going to eliminate the ribs (I know, that’s the whole point of this pattern, but I think I’ll like it better as just a plain stockinnet pointy hat). I’m also going to do five decreases around instead of four to make them happen a little quicker. It may look like poop when I’m done, but it’s worth a try. I really like this yarn so far. It’s a fun crazy color and not scratchy at all on my forehead when I tried it on.

7/18/10: I finished tonight after a lot of trial and error. What I did:

  • Purled the first row after casting on in order to keep it from rolling so much.
  • Knit until it measured 2” (a total of 10 rounds including the purl round).
  • Knit the increase round as per the pattern.
  • Knit 9 rounds
  • Decreased 2 stitches on the 10th round in order to get my stitch count down to a number divisible by 5.
  • Decreased 5 times every other round until I had 5 stitches left.
  • Knit one more round
  • Decreased two stitches the next round
  • Knit across like i-cord for the last row
  • Cut the yarn, pulled it through and weaved in the ends.
  • I also added a flower (Versatile Flower Pin.)

I like it much better as a plain stockinette hat without the purl rounds that are in the pattern. It’s certainly quirky looking, but I’m sure I’ll wear it.
