Started this at least 10 or 15 years ago - just picked it up again recently and found I’m not doing the crochet the same way somehow, and it’s creating a ridge that the other rows don’t have. Kind of gave up on it for now, since knitting is really my preference, and I’ve apparently forgotten how to crochet! But I’m thinking, because I love the look of this blanket, maybe I should just do it as a knit blanket instead.

Any ideas out there about how to make the raised stitches of the diamond pattern in a knit pattern rather than crochet? I don’t think a st st (or rev st st) background with purl st diamonds would be enough contrast. -- 10-20-10 I found a knit diamond-patterned blanket that would be very similar if done in the same color striping - located here: http://dragonknits.webs.com/patterns.htm. Needs to have the stitch counts worked out appropriately, though, so I’ve started charting it. Who knows when I’ll ever get back to it.

YAY!!! Thanks to Neen in a discussion about embossed knitting textures that sent me looking at various projects done that way, I have the answer to the knitting version of the crocheted blanket! Just need to fill each diamond with more knit stitches - I think 19 in the center. I’m thrilled. It’s the King Charles brocade shown in the chart here. And the swatch is the King Charles as well.

Here’s a square Navajo blanket crocheted in the round.
