I’m knitting these for a 2010 fundraiser for my granddaughter’s eventual heart transplant and in support of research for Congenital Heart Disease. I selected Cosmopolitan (red) yarn since the CHD ribbon is technically red & blue. I don’t think I’ll be adding the blue (unless I duplicate stitch it on the edge of just one ribbon of the sock maybe - or add beads).

The pattern is intimidating at first (& I frogged a couple times before I picked up steam), but as soon as you get into the rhythm of things, it’s a joy to work on. Because I have small feet, even using size 1 for medium width made them too loose. Rather than frog yet again, after knitting the first iteration of the ribbon/heart pattern, I gradually decreased 10 stitches from the sole. That makes the top pull in a bit, but they really feel comfortable now.

Fundraiser cancelled - socks on hold!

March 2011: tore out what I had done already - it was a little too sloppy (photos 2-4) - and I’m starting over. Fits way better now, but I’m only on the leg of the first sock so far (photo 1).

4/17/11 Finally finished - and I just love socks with cables, because they hug your foot so perfectly. These are really comfy.
