This is a great cardigan because you can wear it with the collar rolled down for warmer weather or wear it up for extra warmth when its cold.
I used yarn from my stash and really didn’t enjoy knitting with it, there was sooo much veg matter including these awful little spiked burrs. However it washed and blocked beautifully and I’m more than happy with the end result.
Mods- I knit the cardigan all in one piece, up to the underarms, then knit each piece separately. I picked up about 10 sts less for the button bands (just seemed to be the right amount for my project) and I grafted the sleeves to the body….for more info see below.
20/2/10- Got gauge with 4.5mm needles. Just started knitting the sleeves in the round.
22/2- First sleeve finished, CO for 2nd sleeve. I did 10 extra rows at the top of the sleeve.
25/2- 2nd sleeve finished.
26/2- CO for fronts and back, going to knit all in one piece up to underarms. Finished the rib now onto the diamond pattern.
8/3- I’ve knitted up to the underarms and I’m now knitting each section separately. So far I have finished the two front sections and am now knitting the back. I have also brought some great 1940’s vintage buttons for this cardi.
14/3- Finished he body, attached the shoulder seams using the suggested 3 needle bind and attached the sleeves using kitchener stitch (because I didn’t want to seam:))
16/3- Knitting the button bands now, so nearly finished! Picked up around 10 sts less on each side of the button band.
19/3- Finished!!! I have the sweater laid out blocking, so will take some pics when dry.
