Knit as much homespun as possible. I used Larisa’s cast on method and followed the pattern until I began running out of yarn.

Larisa’s cast on I used
Cast on 5 st, knit 2 rows.
3rd row: k2, m1,k1,m1,k2
4th row: k2, purl to last 2,k2
5th row: k2,m1,k1,m1,k1(center st),m1,k1,m1,k2
6th row and all even rows - like row 4

I then did
-16 texture
-16 st stitch.
-16 texture
-16 st stitch
-16 texture
-10 st. Stitch
- as many texture rows until I ran out of yarn.
I switched to the solid and knit 18 garter stitch rows.

I then soaked and blocked and worked beautifully!!
