Knitting a sweater for a boy whose father is a history professor. Appropriate? Yeah.

After first attempt: Cast on 48 sts. Size 9 for body. Knitted up to row 25. I stopped increasing at 156 sts., which was 5 1/4 inches. 23+33+42+34+23. I added 3 stitches for each arm.

YARN: upcycled yarn from a sweater with a tag that said “Fisherman Out of Ireland” 73% Merino Wool, 12% Silk, 10% Viscose and 5% Cashmere. Used the yarn doubled throughout.

For ribbing I used size 5 needles, but bound off in size 9. For collar I used size 8.

For the body I had 95 stitches before the ribbing on the bottom.

Arm was 35 rows long before ribbing. I had to decrease every 7 rows to get from 33 sts (after picking up and decreasing armpit hole sts) to 28 sts before k2 p2.

For next sweater I want the collar to be longer.
