Subbing in Graph 6 - District of Latgale from Lizbeth Upitis’ Latvian Mittens instead of the flower.
Gauge is almost spot on, 33st x 32 rows =4” (written gauge 34x34)
I have decided that the game plan is to have the main colorwork as an at-home project, and the sleeve cuffs/ribbing as the travel project (until it comes time to start the colorwork, at which point I hope to be knitting the ribbing on the body of the sweater).
Sleeves made 3/4 length by casting on 150 for ribbing and decreasing by 1/3 (k1, k2tog across) and then completing three repeats of stitch pattern (with increases as shown for standard graph) before starting sleeve caps.
Followed bourdetjm’s pointer and used 11 st steeks rather than 7.
7/27 - cast on!
7/28 - knit a total of 3” of colorwork for body and both ribbed cuffs completed.
7/29 - 6 inches on body completed.
7/30 - 8 inches of body completed.
7/31 - 10 inches of body completed, switching to second set of charts (3/4: armhole & upper front)
8/1 - 13 inches of body completed.
8/2 - 16 inches or body completed, completed second set of charts. Switching to third set (5/6 back, shoulder shaping)
8/3 - completed third set of charts, bound off body of sweater.
8/4 - sewed and cut steeks, body washed and blocking. 5” of colorwork completed on sleeves (about 2/3 through shortened sleeve chart)
8/5 - finished colorwork chart for sleeve, moving to sleeve cap tomorrow. Picked up ribbing and increased per instructions.
8/6 - continued knitting ribbing, started back shaping short rows.
8/7 - finished back neck short rows.
8/8 - knit short rows for bottom of sweater.
8/9 - continued to knit ribbing, started sleeve caps.
8/10 - finished sleeves, knit 1/2” of ribbing.
8/11 - 1” of ribbing completed.
8/12 - Completed ribbing (only knit to 1.5” as I am afraid the waist will be too big), steeked and set-in the sleeves.
8/13 - Blocked!
General: I am a bit concerned about the ribbing, especially at the bottom. It looks like there may have been too many stitches (which I don’t believe because I didn’t pick up/increase as much as called for). I am hoping that will go away once worn. Pattern is very well written, I would knit it again (subbing in another graph).
2/4/13 - After having this completed sweater hanging about for several months without being worn, I decided o go back and fix the ribbing, which wasn’t long enough. Ripped out a good inch or so, back to the buttonholes. I had a very difficult time figuring out where the buttonholes should be the first time so that they would be the most useful, so I am not knitting buttonholes and will sew the buttons to the buttonband and use snaps as closures instead. This will allow me to try the sweater on and figure out where they belong, which is impossible to tell when the sweater is all bunched up on the needles.
