Notes

Modified pattern to make a 10” wide runner, pattern portion remains the same.

EPI: 16 for white, 32 in pattern area.
Ends: 196 white, 60 colors/pattern
Width in Reed: 11”
Reed: 8 dent
Sley: 2/dent for white, 4/dent in pattern area

09/29: 16-yard warp wound and hung. Waiting to finish towels currently on loom. Should get 12 runners.

Figured out I tied up “upside down”. Fixed. Treadling was a challenge in the beginning … remembering to pick up a stick shuttle to separate the layers. Finally got the hang of it and really like this pattern. Thinking of expanding it if I do a redo.

10-03-2021

Cut off three runners. Because of the double thickness of the warp in the design area, the warp becomes progressively under more tension creating a “smiley” fell.

Had to re-sley … pulled the beater forward to undo the cloth beam cog forgetting I hadn’t tied bouts. Uggh.

Had an epiphany moment today. I tried using the “slat” thingies that came with my flour loom to wind in on the cloth beam hoping to even out the warp tensioning issue… but using them full length did not solve the problem. However, while staring at the taunting “smiley fell line” and feeling frustrated, I figured I’d try cutting the slats into 3” pieces - the distance of background weave from the edge of the pattern double thick warp to the selvedge, placing one on each side….. and voila, the tension is much better after winding in a couple of repeats. Thank goodness… this cutting off and retying is getting tedious!

Cut off this time after 6 longer runners (40”-ish instead of 35”-ish). Thankfully, the little 3” spacing pieces left no marks in the fabric under pressure on the cloth beam.

10-17-2021

Finally got that last little bit of warp woven. End results:
8 runners @ 40”-ish
4 runners @ 35”-36”
1 runner @ 30” (last of the warp)

No mistakes, super fun to weave. Very pleased with the turned draft.

Washed in cold, dried on low, and ironed.
