This is my first test for Rachel Costello of Ireland. I knew I wanted to knit this the first time I saw her post on Instagram. Gorgeous design!
There are two sleeve options in the pattern - tapered and straight. Since I wasn’t sure if I’d have enough yarn, I chose to knit the tapered sleeves. All sleeve decreases for the size 3 are done in the upper stockinette portion of the sleeves. There is no body decreasing or increasing, though the ribbing does pull the sweater in quite a bit at the hipline (if you are wearing it closed).
I could have knit the size 2 because this cardigan is meant to be worn open most of the time. However, the ribbing pulls it in at the hip quite a bit. So if I want to wear this closed with a shawl pin, this is the correct size for me.
Judy’s Magic Cast On is used for the shawl collar at center back neck. You could just as easily use a provisional cast on, if desired. However, be sure to line up all the knit and purl rib stitches when knitting the right and left collar sections.
I used a tubular bind off for the sleeves and bottom edge.
Needles used:
Size 5.5 US / 4.0 mm (Susan Bates) - Upper part of body and sleeves (to underarm), including all ribbing
Size 6 US / 4.25 mm (Addi Turbo) - Lower part of body and sleeves (from underarm), including all ribbing
Size 4 US / 3.5 mm - Just for the tubular bind offs (4 prep rows)
Garment Measurements
(after shrinking in a warm dryer):
Side length from underarm - 14.5” (shrank 1”)
Sleeve length from underarm - 17.5” (shrank 1”)
Armhole depth = 9” (shrank .5”)
Raglan - 10” (shrank 1”)
Hip circumference - 32”
(front ribbing overlapped & unstretched)
Weight of finished garment:
23.9 oz (678 grams)

This video fails to mention that you need to have a tail long enough for 60 stitches which is the amount you’ll need on BOTH needles to cast on for this project.

Tubular Bind Off in the Round - Video Tutorial which I used to bind off the sleeves and bottom edge..
I went down 2 needle sizes to 4 US in preparation for this.
I also reversed some of the stitches in preparation (e.g. changed 2 x 2 to 1 x 1 sequence).
Suzanne shows how to do this in the last part of the following video which is the tubular bind off method when knitting flat (as with the bottom edge of this cardigan. Don’t forget to switch to 2 sizes smaller needle for a neat finish. The video above shows how to do this in the round (sleeves) and the video below shows how to do it when working flat (bottom edge).
