This is a classic, very well written pattern. I did the German short rows to raise the back neck which is an option. This is a good, basic pattern for a first pullover.
What I did differently:
-
I did my sleeve decreases at a slightly different rate - every 6th stitch instead of every 5th stitch. I had a total of 9 decrease rounds before reaching 58 sts. The decreasing ended 7” from the underarm. Then the rest of the sleeve (prior to ribbing) was another 8” of straight rounds. Normally, I like to spread my decreases evenly over the full length of the sleeve. However, I did not have enough yarn to do it like this on this project. Each sleeve required almost an entire skein of yarn. And I still needed 2 more skeins to finish the body at the desired length. The sleeves look and fit just fine. However, I would have preferred to have them gradually decrease rather than just decreasing in the top 7 inches as the pattern indicated.
-
I did 21 rounds for the sleeve ribbing and then bound off using Lori’s Twisty Bindoff. This resulted in a 3” wide cuff rather than the 2.5” specified in the pattern.
-
Prior to starting the lower ribbing, I increased every 8th stitch (32 sts). This was to prevent the ribbing from pulling in. I like it to hang straight. So I had a toal of 254 sts for the 1 x 1 lower ribbing (222 + 32 = 254 sts)
Note: Since the Silky Wool yarn is all natural fibers, it breaks rather easily compared to yarns containing some synthetic fibers. It will also require protection from moths. I do love the slightly nubby texture and slight difference in the way the wool and silk absorbed the dye.
Needles used:
Size 2 US (Addi) - Lower ribbing including Lori’s Twisted bindoff.
Size 2.5 US (Addi) - Neckband and sleeve ribbing. Also lower 10” of body. I was running short on the Silky Wool.
Size 4 US (Addi) - Sleeves and upper portion of body starting at underarm. Switched to size 2.5 US needle after 1st skein of the Silky Wool was used up (6” down). I did this to save yarn, but it worked out well because my husband is wider in the chest area than at the waist.
Finished Measurements:

Hip circumference - 38”
Center back length, including neckband - 26.5”
Armhole depth - 9.5”

Raglan diagonal (front) - 10.5”
Length of body from underarm - 16.25” (including 3” ribbing)
Sleeve length from underarm - 18” (including 3” cuff ribbing)
Upper arm circumference - 14”
Lower arm circumference - 10.5”
Neckband height - 1.375”

This is my very favorite tubular cast on (in the round) demonstrated by Suzanne Bryan. It’s super stretchy and very easy:
