This Ruffled Hat pattern for an American Girl Doll is free, courtesy of Elaine Baker (aka “Ladyfingers”). I made this Easter bonnet to go with the dress that I made for Michaela’s AG doll. You can obtain both patterns from this Web site:

Elaine’s patterns are not available on Ravelry. She has many other wonderful free AG Doll knitting patterns available on the Knitting Paradise Web site.
I followed her pattern for the most part. Following are the changes that I made:
-
I didn’t knit the hat flat, but rather all in the round. I don’t like seaming.
-
Where she says to “purl two rows tightly”, I switched to size 7 needles just for these two rounds. The rest of the hat was knit with size 8 (US) circular needles.
-
Following the two rounds of purl stitches (after K3tog all around), I substitued two rounds, creating eyelets, so that I could thread a ribbon around that part of the hat:
Row 1 (right side): K3, ^(K2tog, YO); Repeat form ^ across row until last 3 stitches, K3.
Row 2 (wrong side): Purl all stitches (24 holes for ribbon)
Then I did 8 more rounds of garter stitch per the pattern, following the pattern from then on. Added some tiny silk flowers for decoration. I had purchased some flower sprigs at Michael’s for 99 cents a stem, so just pulled a few petals petals off of those.
This is a very easy pattern. The hat looks enormous when you start it, but it shrinks to doll size after the K3tog round. Remember that when you knit in the round, garter stitch is achieved by alternate rounds of knit and purl (including crown of hat). I think it turned out darling.
