02-08-2021 - Cast On

Making a dinosaur vintage sweater commission, using this pattern as the skeleton. I drew up my own pattern for it.

I casted on. Deciding to follow Becky’s lead and make the whole body as one piece rather than separate. My pattern needs 36 stitches so I casted on 30 + 1 for the front pieces and 32×2 for the back.

Let’s see how this goes! Will do an update when I’ve done the ribbing.

02-09-2021 - Finished Ribbing

So I’ve just finished the ribbing for it. The reason why I casted on much smaller stitches than what my drawing calls for, is because I’m using 2.0mm, and I cant go down a needle size to 1.0mm because it’s near impossible to do with Aran.

I still wanted the widening effect, so I think it should still give me that ‘scrunched’ to ‘widening’ effect. Will update after I’ve done the first dinosaur for the body.

02-21-2021 - First Dinosaur

College has been absolutely whooping my behind, but I think I’m back on top of things now. I’m still a bit behind but I’m trying to catch up with homework and stuff.

I’ve just completed the first dinosaur. I really like how it looks and I’m excited to do the other dinosaurs. I was aiming for the size 2 (so knitting up to 9 inches) bit I’m not sure if I can make it - or how to change my pattern in a way that it’ll fit. I’ll definitely write it out before knitting it, but for now, on to the next part.

I’m going to knit the “DINOSAUR” text now. So excited!

02-27-2021 - Dinosaur Text 1/3

Finished the first of three dinosaur text. So far this measures out to 5 inches - which really isnt bad. I’ve planned it out in stitchfiddle and so far, I think I can fit all the images I need while keeping it to a size 2.

The next dinosaur is a pterodactyl. Will update once that’s done.

03-06-2021 2nd Dinosaur and 2nd DINOSAUR text

Today is my birthday!!! partying_facepartying_face 20 years old.

Anyway, just finished the second dinosaur and the second dinosaur text. I’ve casted off for the arm sleeves and now I’m shaping the neck while also knitting the final dinosaur and the final dinosaur text. I hope the neck shape comes out well. I’ve planned it all out so hopefully it comes out as planned!

I’ve modified the pattern so that instead of the neck AND the arm holes coming at a triangle, only the neck will start to be triangles and the arm-side will remain as a rectangle. I hope this makes sense! Lol

Currently, the full knitted piece measures 9 inches - the same amount as size 2 in the pattern, which is just as I planned! Hopefully it keeps going on like this haha.

On to the final part of the main body.

03-09-2021 - Finished Main Body

Main body is finished. I am happy with how it turned out. I’ve weaved in most of the edges so now that’s remaining is:

  1. The Button band
  2. The Neck Band
  3. The sleeves.

I think I’ll just update with final pictures once I’ve done everything and blocked it.

04-11-2021 - Sleeves Done!

Both sleeves are finally done!!!! Second sleeve syndrome really sucks.

I’ve blocked everything now. All that’s remaining is the button band and the background!

04-25-2021 - FINISHED!

I’m finally done!!! Yay!

Changes Made To Original Pattern:

  • I used my own color pattern rather than just knitting the sweater straight through (Colorwork was created by Leonardo Probanza, owner of MadeOfPixelsArt etsy shop.)
  • Instead of doing a raglan sleeve, I did a sew-in sleeve instead. This also means that instead of decreasing where the sleeve was supposed to be, I kept it straight like a square instead.
  • I did not use the pattern’s button band method.I picked up and knitted along the side instead of knitting an entire band and then sewing it together.
  • Instead of knitting one piece at a time, I knitted the whole piece at once.
  • I mixed Sizes 2 and 4. I used the Size 2 for the body of the sweater, but I used a Size 4 for the sleeves.
