I wanted to make a folklore style sweater for my friend’s cat, so I’m using the perfect fit dog and cat sweater as my base and incorporating the cables from the folklore cardigan.
Luna’s measurements:
Neck circumference: 9 inches
Arm circumference: 5.5 inches
Space between legs: 3 inches
Chest circumference: 14.5
(Roughly, it was pretty hard to measure her, but this seems close enough to other cat measurements I found on the project page)
This gives me a stitch count of:
Collar: 50 stitches (loose fit)
Between leg: 12 stitches
Sleeve: 32 stitches
Cast on 50 stitches for collar on with smaller needles. Work rib. Finish with two black stripes, two white stripes, two black stripes.
Set up row: knit all the way round in white
Body row 1: k1, m1l, p1, k1, p1, wide cable, narrow cable, diamond cable, narrow cable, wide cable, k1, p1, k1, p1, m1r, k1
(Keep knitting the first and the last stitch and knit the extra stitches made on the row before to make a raglan centre)
Row 2: k2, p1, k1, p1, knit in pattern, k1, p1, k1, p1, k2
Row 3: k1, m1l, p1, k1 etc. Knit in pattern, p1, k1 etc m1r, k1
Etc
Continue until you have done 15 increases in total. You should now have 80 stitches on your needles.
To make the arm holes:
Work in moss pattern for 6 stitches, bind off 16 stitches, work in pattern until 22 stitches remain. Bind off 16 stitches, work final 6 in moss pattern.

Reached 80 stitches. It’s a little jars to measure on the circular needles but it’s roughly 7.25 inches laid flat, which bodes well for the 14.5 ribcage circumference we measured (….not that I’m too confident in our measurements, the cat was reaaaaallllllly not cooperating.) Hopefully blocking and some stretch gives some leeway.

Realised knitting 6 then binding off 16 would interfere with the first stitch of the wide cable, so I m1l and included that in the 6 knit stitches (then the same but m1r on the other side)

Shouldn’t have tried to knit/purl the cast on stitches in pattern, need to go back and knit them all

Stopped the tummy portion at 3.5 diamond pattern repeats, then decreased every other row (instead of every four, I misread ) and finished the back portion after 4 diamond pattern repeats.
Picked up and knit rib for the hem and wee little sleeves finishing everything with a tubular bind off.
Wove in ends and blocked the body.

My first time crocheting an actual pattern as opposed to desperate saves for my knitting!

Tried it on and the collar came up too high, more like a turtleneck. My friend liked it when it was rolled down, but that didn’t work as well with the folded collar. So I cut off the folded collar to make a regular one. Fucked up picking up stitches over the centre diamond pattern, so had to wing some surgery to try and hide it. Ended up doing kind of like duplicate stitches. I think I’ve more or less gotten away with it, plus I think my friend will still want to roll the collar down Can’t wait to see the final thing on!
