Lots of comments about how the hat is a bit small, so I added 4 stitches. Between the major cables are columns of K2, so I added 1 stitch to each column, then changed them to a teeny tiny 3 stitch (4 row) plait. Row 1: k3; Row 2: C1L, k1; Row 3: k3; Row 4: k1, C1R

Finished the crown (without breaking yarn), and it’s a bit too short, so I’m ripping it back to before the first decrease and adding another horseshoe cable (4 total). Also followed other user’s mods to skip rows 8, 10, 12, 14, 16. It makes a much nicer, less pointy crown.

3 repeats before the crown was perfect.

This should be a good size for the giftee who has a bigger head than me. If I were to make it for myself, I would cast on only 80 stitches, knit the brim maybe with a 5, and use a 9 for the body. That would give it a better brim for me, and a less-stiff, slouchier fit.
