Notes

This is the most ambitious design I’ve ever come up with and executed. I was inspired by a visit to the Iona Abbey and Nunnery on the Isle of Iona in the Inner Hebrides.

Used a hand dyed sock yarn from Queen of Purls, located in Glasgow, with a lace merino from Tosh held together throughout.

Constructed from the bottom up, in-the-round to the arms, then the back and front worked separately. Set in sleeves and a scoop neck with a garter edge.

Sleeves are slightly flared, worked top down and fall to the hand knuckle to give a romantic drape. The finished sweater falls below the bum, giving an illusion of a gown that might have been worn in the Middle Ages.

I worked the front and back identically so the drama of the center cable knot can be seen from both sides.
