Just knitted a basic “X’s and O’s” cable pattern out of sock yarn. Before beginning, I threaded 500 beads on each skein of yarn, totaling 1,000 beads. Between each cable, I slid up one bead, three times for each row. I alternated the side of the cable to receive the bead so that they weren’t lined up totally straight. This one just came out gorgeous! The beads made it go slowly at first, but you get used to it and it goes faster and faster. Really fast if you place 3 beads about every 2 feet on an entire skein of yarn and then rewind it into a ball. Managing the beads was the hardest part. Being patient with knitting a 6’ long project out of sock yarn was the next hardest part! I slipped the first stitch of each row to make a nice soft edge. knitted front, purled back, every other row. On in between rows, cabling front for two rows and back for two rows, creating the x’s and o’s pattern. I’ll be happy to send you the exact pattern if you’d like!
