Flat knitted a braided cable band to fit head circumference, but left length for a tail to thread through a belt buckle. Measured the band to fit my head then connected the ends together. Picked up stitches around the top of the band and knitted the hat in the round. Did approx. 6 evenly spaced increases about an inch or two above the cable band over two alternating rows to make the hat flare out into a beret style. Finished the hat by attaching the belt buckle and then adding a chain above the braided band, using a crochet hook & ribbon yarn.
