I wanted to knit something to carry my yoga mat to Jazzercise classes. Didn’t want to invest countless hours in knitting a bag, though. Decided to make a belt to quickly and easily sling across the rolled up mat. This is a very simple design I came up with. I don’t know how to post patterns to Ravelry, so I’m writing it here. I knitted this on a whim & didn’t make notes. Therefore, I apologize if there are any errors in the pattern, as I’m recalling the steps from memory.
PATTERN:
Provisional CO 9 sts.
Knit 2” in i-cord.
Slip a single 1” metal D ring onto icord.
Slip the live CO stitches to a double pointed needle.
Fold over to secure the D ring and knit the co stitches to their corresponding running stitches.
K 1 row in icord.
Decrease: k1, k2tog, k3, ssk, k1 - 7 sts
Continue knitting in icord until length measures 56” from cast on. (You don’t have to be exact in measurement. Make this as long or short as you desire.)
Increase: K1, k1fb, k3, k1fb, k1 - 9sts
Continue knitting 2” in i-cord.
Bind off, leaving a long enough tail to sew this end folded over a single D ring to the i-cord where the increase stitches started. Finish by weaving in all ends.
Note: If using the Provisional Cast On step to secure the D ring is too confusing, then do a long tail cast on instead of a provisional cast on & knit the i-cord. At the end of the project, add a single 1” D ring to each ends of the belt. Fold over the ends and sew them together using the tails.
