200mm aluminium frame
2 x 100g x 200m raffia paper
Summer clutch is finished….made from raffia and fitted onto a lightweight metallic clutch frame.
I hadn’t realised that raffia would be hard to work but my hands certainly took a pummelling making this. Fortunately in spite of this I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out.
As much as anything this was a learning project after I’d searched online for some helpful YouTube tutorials. I started with a crochet chain to form the rectangle base using calculations based on the size of my clutch frame. After the increases were complete I continued working in the round until the desired height was achieved. The attaching of the lining is a bit skew but I’d finished hand stitching it before I realised so it was destined to remain skew! I also only realised the best technique for sewing the raffia to the frame when I was nearly half way around but still carried on. Lots learnt if I ever make another.
Not sure how you calculate the thickness of raffia but I believe my rolls were each 100g and approx 200m in length. I started a second roll and calculated I’ve used about 115g of raffia but forgot to weigh it before lining and attaching to the frame. The lining was some plain lightweight cotton/polycotton fabric from my stash.
SC with a 4.5mm hook.
