Notes

MaryB (who I like to call Mabs), is my work wife. She and I run support groups together, we hang out after stressful days to share a beer, and we gather in her office to discuss the craziness of the workplace, the way work couples do. Unfortunately, she’s leaving me - to move to Columbus and live with her boyfriend and take a new job that sounds perfect for her. That’s all great and I’m happy for her - but damn, I wish she were staying!

Ages ago, she mentioned that she’d love to bargain with me for some fingerless gloves…so I decided to make her a pair as a goodbye/holiday/you’re awesome gift. These colours are just so very her - she’s constantly wearing these deep purples and plums, and I know she’ll get lots of use out of them. I mostly finished one and took it in to show her and have her try on today (12/18) - she loved the finger length, which is perfect, but she wants the arm to be a bit longer. I’ll have to figure out how to do that on this first glove…while I try to come up with a solution to that one, I think I’ll start the second.

1/2/13 - All done! I stayed up last night to finish these, so that I could wrap up a WIP on the very first of the year. Just for clarity’s sake:

  • I did 9 rounds of ribbing at the bottom
  • I did 2.5 reps of the stitch pattern before starting the thumb gusset
  • The thumb gusset was done according to Vilma’s instructions, the only person who I thought had really done a good job of helping with the construction of the pattern. That took me through one repeat of the pattern (so just for you playing along at home, we’re now at row 11!)
  • Since Mabs had said that she liked them a little shorter, I then did just 5 more rows of the pattern
  • I did 3 rounds of k1tbl, p1, then bound off

I really did love this pattern. However, I only gave it a rating of 3 stars because the creator of these gloves put so little instruction on her blog as to how she constructed them. I definitely spent a good hour or more searching through other people’s project pages for information on how they had worked the thumbs and whatnot, so I take off a few points for that.

I’ll definitely be making these again - I’ve had them queued for myself since forever, and I’m tempted to start on either the gloves or the hat since I have the stitch pattern memorized at this point.
