Worked the smallest size with sport/dk on larger needles for a sweater that will hopefully fit her when she is a year old.

Since I hate crocheting, instead of the sc edging I picked up stitches all along the boundary between the bottom border and the stripes, knitted one row, then worked three rows in reverse stockinette before casting off purlwise. This makes a cute border that matches the edgings of the sweater.

I absolutely love this pattern. Next time, though, I think I will pick up and knit the bottom border after the rest is done, rather than working it at the same time as the garter stripes. The garter of the border will then be perpendicular to the garter of the body, which will look a bit different, but means no intarsia and thus less fussiness. (or I could pick up stitches along the bottom and knit the border on sideways afterward to keep all the garter going in the same direction) Also I will use a three-needle bindoff to attach the sides rather than kitchener, for stability. Finally, if I use a yarn with long color changes like Noro, I will set up the colors so that the changes are mirrored on either side of the center back. Just for fun.
