Notes

I am clearly addicted to the sophisticated look of solid/variegated garter stripes.

Only one color was worked per row. I slipped the eight cable stitches whenever I was working the colored yarn, and cabled every twelfth ridge (every 24th row). About midway between the cable twists I worked short rows in each cable column to add two extra rows of white. This kept the cowl from drawing in too much at the cables. The compression that did happen means this cowl is very squishy and lush in the garter bits. The resulting flare on the edges helps the cowl to sit neatly on the chest and frames the chin.

If I were to do it again, I would probably work the short rows twice between the cable twists, and work the cable twists every 8th ridge, for much less drawing-in.

I had originally planned to do an i-cord edging in the variegated yarn, but it was much too bulky, and I liked the striped look of the original slipped stitch edge.
