yep… 4th time I’ve knit this pattern. Love my long sleeve version, but it’s very warm. So the Classic Silk version was born.
Back and left front done and joined. After a quick body check, decided to add an other repeat before sleeve shaping to compensate for my large bust line (the ribbing is hitting just a bit high). Added a bit of length to the skirt section and I plan on making 3/4 sleeves.
Such a fast knit. Such a lovely cardigan. Don’t be surprised if there’s a number 5 version of this in my future!
Mods to date: did the bottom ribbing with size 6 needles and the body with 8’s. the last lace repeat was done with size 7’s to make the shoulders a wee bit narrower (I chose the size based on my large bust, but I have narrow shoulders). Added about an 1” to the skirt. Will be adding an half repeat on the lace section before sleeve shaping. Increased two stitches on the last row of ribbing as seam stitches).
Update July 17, 2011: by the time this cardigan is done, I’ll basically have knit it twice. I seem to be constantly ripping back and reworking sections (I am really doing a lot of tweaking on it, and we’ll call it a “trial and error” technique).
Saying that, after procrastinating forever on the sleeves (as they required me to do actual math), they are done! I ended up with 7/8 sleeves (longer than 3/4 yet not full length). So just the blocking, ribbing and seaming (not necessarily in that order).
Have I mentioned how much I adore this yarn???
Update 7/22/2011: Done! Well, sorta: the buttons I had originally planned on using are too heavy for the yarn. So I need to do a little button shopping. I also need to do a light steam on the button bands
Mods:
-
Added 2” to the skirt
-
Added 2” to the lace section before sleeve shaping
-
Made the neck not as deep (okay, this was an accident, but I like it)
-
Did all ribbings on size 6 needles rather than the 8’s
-
Went down to a size 7 needle for the last two lace pattern repeats to make the shoulders a little more narrow
-
Made 7/8 sleeves (the sleeves hit me about 2” above my wrist)
I love the way this turned out. I did a lot of ripping on this project, but I got the cardigan I wanted. The yarn is just scrumptious and the finished cardigan is so lightweight and soft. Perfect for those over air conditioned restaurants in summer (which is EXACTLY what I wanted). The color wasn’t the one I had ordered, but I love this color more than the one I had ordered. Let’s just say “LOVE”!
