I’m taking a continental knitting class at SweetGeorgia, and this is my practice project. Top-down would have been better, so the wonkiest rounds wouldn’t be so front-and-centre. Here’s hoping blocking smooths them out.

I did several swatches with various needle sizes and types of contrast colour yarn. I measured the gauge, calculated how many stitches to cast on, and then it all went out the window. I knitted an inch and a half and noticed that my gauge was much looser than it had been when I was doing the 3” swatches. For some reason, holding the needles and the yarn is feeling very awkward. I’ve been practising continental for two weeks, and I thought I had figured all that out, but having a needle full of stitches feels different.

So I frogged it and cast on fewer stitches. This time, the first inch seemed even more awkward to hold and my gauge seemed looser still, so I frogged again and will try a smaller-diameter needle. (Maybe knitting in the round is throwing me off for some reason? All my practice and swatches before this have been knit flat with a 24-32” needle, and this is 16”. I’m determined, though, so I shan’t give up…)
