Notes

Gorse: an evergreen shrub that features beautiful yellow flowers with thick green spines as leaves, ubiquitous in the UK and Northern Europe.

This yarn has a beautiful iridescence and a soft halo effect. It is much more beautiful than my pictures show. It is discontinued, but still available online. Excellent quality- only one knot in 5 sk. Down two needle sizes to get closer to patt guage (18 st US 9 5.5 mm ). Very little leftover- 18 yds.

Directions are very easy to follow.
Rounds 3 and 5 are similar, so pay attention there.

Tip #1:
First and last 3 rnds are purled. This creates a pretty edge, creatively taking advantage of the curling that occurs with the garter stitch.
To get the same effect without purling, after casting on and joining, knit the first 3 rnds. Before commencing the Pattern Stitch Rnd 1, work a ‘Short Row Wrap and Turn, and continue with pattern as written. When the last Pattern Stitch Rnd 18 is done, work a W&T again and knit the final 3 rnds.

Tip #2:
Cast off with JSSBO ( all knitwise, because my last rows were knitted). JSSBO = Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind Off found at
www.knitty.com/ISSUEfall09/Featjssbo.php
It is a must know bind off.

The lace pattern is very pretty- like rows of trees or candelabras.

I wasn’t aware of Ms. Cristoffer’s designs before. She has many stunning designs.

This cowl to be donated to Devonne’s Divas Ovarian Cancer Charity Event 2016, Byron,Illinois, organized by Jeanine Kaplan. Designer’s permission pending.
