This design and Playa Ruana Poncho by Alexandra Tavel are similar, but this one is worked in a bulky yarn vs worsted. Both projects use the same 10.0 mm hook. The fabric of worsted one is open and lacey. This one is a more filled in mesh. Simple and quick projects.

Both use hdc as the main pattern stitch. I used herringbone hdc as done by a fellow raveler xfarmgirlnj.

Herringbone hdc is new stitch for me and it’ll gives this garment a little different look. Both ruanas are for my daughter in law. She loves the bohemian chic look. Great for strolls on the beach and about town.

Elected to make shaped back neckline at the halfway area as was directed in the Playa Ruana. In so doing, center back seam not needed.

Added iridescent pony beads around all edges.
Reinforced back neck area with sc ( no beads ).
