Tip:
When picking up stitches with a contrast color from a side edge, work the pick up stitches with the original color and then knit into those loops with the contrast. It’s impossible to pick up stitches evenly enough from the edge and have it look tidy and pretty.

Remember, pick up loops are just loops! With circulars, pattern work with the contrast can commence from either way!

For this cowl, I sl st crocheted one row with main color on ea side edge. I proceeded to pick up and knit into the far back loop for the garter st closure bands. That way, it looks like there’s a column st st adjacent to the contrast band.
