Notes

Made this Deschain for a family friend, part of a baby gift.
Seashell motif, because she lives in LA.
Lilac, because she likes purple. Who doesn’t!

My 17th Deschain.
Finished Deschain # 1,736

swatch with US 9:
17 st, 22 r / 4” before washing
17 st, 25 r / 4” after

Made from the bottom up, because of the scallop of the seashell motif.

Recommendation for all Deschains:
Back: work a set of centered short rows every 14 rows for proper drape.

Reminder:
Work all bindoffs very loosely.

Helpful tip:
Before casting on front or back, pull out extra yarn, a generous 5x the length of one shoulder. In so doing, you’ll have the yarn needed for the future shoulder seam on each side.

Before cutting yarn upon finishing the sleeves, keep a generous 5x the length of the arm and side seam attached. That way, the yarn needed for those seams are already attached.

Issue with charts for Susie Sells Seashells Stole:
Another knitter who made the Susie Sells Seashells Lace Stole noted an error in the charts but she did not specify which charts nor the problem.

Used chart A, the small seashell only, because it has the stitch count needed for inserting into Deschain.

The chart for the seashell itself was perfect but the lace immediately surrounding the small shell didn’t look right.

Spent several hours reworking the mesh. Omitted any column border, omitted ktbl’s not in the shell motif directly, redirected the mesh lines. Happy with how the lace looks now. Loved the seashell motif overall and was determined to use it for this sweater and another.

No need for chart B on this project, however, beware. Some of the subsequent rows of it require more loops than the previous rows provide. There may be some st st’s needed at the left and right if r 1 of chart B. Dunno. I would love to make this shawl, but…
