Notes

This Highlander style pattern is from yarn wrapper of Big Twist Yarns Natural Blend, which uses the Broken Shaker Rib pattern. This Sirdar Denim Ultra is a perfect substitute. It’s big, soft and tweedy great!

It’s the traditional fisherman’s rib pattern. Once you know your guage, cast on an odd # of st, enough stitches for your desired circumference. Do not join.

R1 and all odd rows = WS = knit.
R2 and all even rows = k1, •p1, k1below, rep from • to last two st, p1, k1.

If you want the Broken Shaker Rib pattern, do the above for 8r, then switch the sequence on even rows: k1, • k1 below, p1, rep from • to last two st, k1 below, k1 for 8r.
Repeat above 16 r to desired width.

Join sides with seam.
(Option: if you elect to join and work in the round, simply mark that st and purl all odd rows. The RS will be facing at all times. Also, cast on an even number of stitches and omit beg k1. Simply work the two st patt around.

The pattern is reversible, so mark your RS vs WS to avoid confusion. Once you get the rhythm going, it works up quickly. A lovely bulky accessory for gift giving.

My actual guage has bigger st than patt, but I like the texture, so I’m sticking with it.

I forgot to keep track of my rows, so I don’t have the Broken pattern, but I love it nonetheless.

Made this design with another yarn with great success:
Deanna’s Galaxy Fisherman’s Cowl (#3) and with this same yarn Dusty Teal Fisherman’s Cowl .
