I needed a more substantial fabric.

I wasn’t making the loop stitches correctly. I misunderstood the photo tutorial. I watched the video: Lp - Loop Stitch https://youtu.be/ZwAV1aYWNzc. Very helpful.
Ms. Sharpin’s photo tutorial is slightly different but both methods work.

Alternative Loops:
Chain Loops
Make back piece as written, omitting the loops, f/o.
With same yarn, sk st in center of the circle ring.
Ch 7, skip one st, sl st in next.
Repeat (ch 7, sk 1, sl st) clockwise until the back piece is covered.
The number of chains can be adjusted as desired.

Nose:
I fashioned a different nose than the design one because the nose as written was narrow and protruded too much.
Nose:
Ch 4.
r 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next, 2 sc in last ch, sc in next and last. (6)
r 2: (sc, sc inc) 3x. (9)
r 3: sc around. F/O.

I made the front piece a little wider than written.
Next time, I’ll make it as written. In so doing, there will be more loop stitch rows and that piece will wrap around to the front more.

I only needed 13 rows of the loop stitch back piece to fit.
Used a 12” commercial pillow insert.
