Notes

part of a wedding gift, this one for the bride’s mom.
Red. A symbol of good fortune in Asian culture.
Lotus: a symbol of purity of heart and of commitment among other things, all altruistic.

The talented designer, Ms. Kimberly, is very attentive if help is needed..
This design isn’t hard. Stitches are simply k, p, k2tog and ssk. The challenge is keeping the yo’s on the correct side of each marker.

Marker recommendation:
Yarn stitch marker:

Because the yo’s migrate from one side of the markers to the other, change out regular stitch markers for ones made from yarn: make a loop via a simple knot with a smooth, contrast color yarn. Super cheap. Super easy. Super effective.

Issue with any garter edge shawl:
The edge may not have the same flexibility as the main fabric.
Recommendation:
Work first k3 garter stitches of every row very loosely.
The outer edge needs to stretch a lot.
Or:
Place a yo in between any two of the three garter st edge stitches. Drop the yo when working the next row.
Also:
as in any project worked flat, the last loop of the previous row becomes small when working it with the first stitch of the new row, so one needs to maintain the integrity of that ‘last’ stitch.

Beads:
Added beads to yo’s on accent lines when working the WS purls.
Beaded every yo of last row.
Beaded every stitch of bindoff.
35 beads / g x 18 g / tube x 2.5 tubes = 1,575 beads

Progress points:
Big Lotus section: after r 16, the shawl is about 15 % done.
25 % is done after r 36 of Big Lotus section.
approximate halfway point is a few rows prior to the Big Mesh section.
shawl is ~ 75 % done midway thru the Big Mesh Section.

Design used less yarn than anticipated. Could have added more rows, but it seemed quite perfect as written.
Designers know. I trust them.

It’s a good thing I don’t do test knitting.
My stitches have issues in places.
Hope the recipient doesn’t mind.
The lace yarn I used is quite a bit finer than the design yarn.
