Notes

This is a great contemporary design. Ms. Alexandra is The Champion of Asymmetry. The cardigan is symmetric, but the pattern of the vertical knit / purl rows are not. Looks amazing.

Directions are very clear. Works up very quickly. Great gift. Making this for my niece, a new teacher, to toss on when her classroom gets cold.

Used Eggplant yarn for main sections and Galaxy metallic for ribbing. Added more length (cast on 8 more) plus 16 r k2 p2 rib at lower hem. Made sleeves with shallow shaped sleeve caps. Made front band with button / buttonhole closure. Made two inner pockets with unplied yarn. One can never have too many pockets!

Tip:
Use a 40” length circular needle.
I’ve been using a 32” needle and it’s hard on the hands when working the ribbing bands.

Sleeve modification:
Made sleeve rib band, CO 64 st, as written with sparkly yarn, 10 r, in the round, marker placed. Changed to regular yarn and worked one row. Bound off 8 st before marker and 8 st after marker = 48 st. Worked remaining rows flat, st st, dec 4 st at beg every row until none left.

If you want the sleeves to drop down more, work a few rows st st straight up from the ribbing or work fewer decreases at beg of rows. It’s not a big deal to make a sleeve, see how you like it and go from there.

I gave this gift away before I got better pictures. Because of the dark yarn, it’s hard to see how wonderful it really is!
