Notes

This design is superb. Worthy of the fine animal that the naked mole rat is.

I worked on it diligently and made it, start to finish in one day.

Naked mole rats are rodents but are neither moles nor rats. They live in the horn region of Africa, Somalia.

They can not thermoregulate, so are considered a cold blooded mammal. They have no body hair except for whiskers and some sensory hairs on their feet.

These animals live in large colonies with one female that produces all the offspring, mating with 4 or 5 males, around 8 litters per year with minimally 8 progeny per litter. The pups are weaned in just a few weeks and everyone in the colony helps feed them thereafter.

Their shallow tunnel system, in grassy areas, is sophisticated, with areas for food storage separate from waste deposits. They dig with protruding front teeth, keeping their mouths and noses closed, keeping dirt out. They brush loosened dirt aside with their fanned feet.

The queen, the breeding female, is the biggest, reaching up to 13” long. Most mole rats are about 4”. All males and females are capable of breeding and females fight to the death for dominance when the queen dies. Kaliffee, in Vulcan.

These are fascinating animals. They live 10 - 30 years, have no pain sensation in their skin, thrive in very low oxygen environments for long durations. They are not susceptible to cancer.

They eat the soft parts of nearby roots, systemically, so the main plant grows new roots and doesn’t die.

They never come above ground and have very poor vision.

There’s tons to know about them.

Since this design results in a yarn animal that is 12”, it can be considered a queen.
