Notes

As it turns out, I am a big fan of the amazing Ms. Susanne. She has at least a half dozen other designs that I love and want to make. I have a list. I’ll have to buy more yarn.

Photo tutorial:
Ms. Susanne has a great photo tutorial on a stitch needed for this design: m1bl = make one back loop.
It’s a new one for me, kind of. Back loop is the cast on I learned as a kid learning to knit. It is partly why I hated knitting and gladly left it in the past. It’s a fabulous technique for a one stitch increase.

Ms. Susanne has numerous technique tutorials available from her rav i.d. page. Very helpful for knit learning in general.

yo’s and markers:
Markers, markers, markers. So important.
The center section, RS, has yo’s on the inside of both markers, which can move about. Take care working the marker area of WS.

chart / written instructions
A stunning design for super bulkies.
Very well written and clear.
I’m so happy the designer provides fully written instructions.
I’m not a chart person.

Gauge:
Swatch, swatch, swatch! So important!
Usually I am over gauge and have to go to smaller needles.
This a big exception.
US 15 10.0 mm, 10 st / 4”. Too many.
US 17 12.75 mm, 8 st / 4”. Still too many.
US 19 15 mm, 7 st. Still too many, but stitch density seemed too loose.
Stuck with US 17 12.75 mm.
Can’t explain, especially since I’m using the same yarn as the pattern. Oh, well.
(Pattern gauge = 6 st / 4”)
After washing, 7 st 10 r / 4”.

A test knitter listed her gauge at 8 st.
I appreciate it when ravelers give such details on their project pages.
Designer noted one sk was used for the first section and that’s what I got, so that’s on track.

Worked patt thru rib rows row 8.
Had about 25 g, ~ 20 y for bind off.
Used nearly all of it. Only a couple yards left.

JSSBO
Worked JSSBO = Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind-off
invented by the incomparable Ms.Jeny Staiman
curiousjeny and video tutorials are available online. It is an essential bind off to know. Very easy.

La Visch designs that I want to make:
Green Madeira
Kurkuma
Mustard and Slate
Pink Monarda
Zeeglas Cowl

Wait. There’s more:
Pine Cone Sachet
Snowflake Sachet

My current project theme:
Debbie Bliss yarns that I have (Paloma, Paloma Tweed and Roma). I was fortunate to get them at a bargain a few years ago.
This design was originally made for Roma.
It’s rare that I have the design yarn.
