Notes

I made this designer’s Large Flying Fox.
I can’t say enough about her designs.
Immaculately done to the last detail.

Made my project to resemble the Ummidia sp. trap door spider, which lives in Arizona.
Part of an insect / arachnid set with a trap door burrow.
Meditating on the latter.

The design’s jaws are called chelicerae and have fangs.
The two ‘small legs’ aren’t considered legs, rather appendages called pedipalps for holding prey and reproduction.
The design’s eight other ‘large legs’ are actual legs.
Spiders have eight legs, a pair of chelicerae and a pair of palpidae. They also have posterior spinerets.

Ran out of MC yarn, as in, didn’t have nearly enough.
The trap door spider has shiny legs that contrast with the main body sections so a different yarn for the legs worked out nicely.
Used the solid black bulky yarn, 8-ply divided into two 4-ply sections for the 8 legs.

Yarn requirement:
with regular single str yarn, this design uses ~ 300 y.

Did not wire the legs. They were firm enough. Made leg curve with a few invisible stitches.
It takes a lot patience to make the legs, but the result is worth it.
