To avoid having the join, three needle bind off or kitchener seam at a color change area:
work the CC small bow loop first.

work a regular or provisional cast on with CC first.
work until yarn is about half gone.
continue with MC entire.
change back to CC.
continue in CC until this section is the same length as the first CC section.
join in desired manner.

Place bow fastener.
The bow fastener will cover the seam.
