Love this pattern.
I plan to use it many times.

Don’t let the ‘short row’ term scare you.
In crochet, there’s no wrapping, as in knitting.
One simply crochets the designated number of stitches, turns the work and then works the next row.
Nothing to it!

Modifications:
1.
Worked fsc for r1 instead of working into a chain.

2.
At the end of all even rows, (crown area) worked sl st instead of sc. This reduces bulk a little bit.

3.
At beg of all odd rows, (still the crown area) worked sc into first st as well.
Placed marker on that loop to make it easier to find when needed later.
