Don’t be alarmed about the amount of yarn used.
The multi yarn was held double.

Design does not provide a gauge.
Mathematically, I figured design gauge at 13 st, 12 r / 4” with designer’s worsted and 5.0 mm hook.

This isn’t a project for one’s first crochet garment, but if one focuses and follows the directions very closely, one will be successful. Fellow raveler, Olivia knotLivid, worked this design in one color and her vest is gorgeous The Houndstooth Sweater Vest. The alt sc, dc patt is beautiful on its own.

Got design gauge with the white cotton sport wt as is and the multi sport held double.
Not sure the Sultan is a sport wt. Much lighter to me.

I was considering making this in the round, but am glad I didn’t. The stitch pattern looks very different on each side. Upon dividing for front and back, one would then have to work each row from right to left keeping same side facing. It could be done, but it would be a challenge working the appropriate decreases. One would adjust the order of (sc, dc) as well.

The main thing is to work a sc of the working row on top of a dc of previous row. Likewise, a dc on working row above a sc below.
All decreases are sc dec. Resume the patt, (sc, dec) or (dc, sc) based on the next stitch after the decrease stitch.
They’re all written out, but sometimes I had to adjust because I was doing one size for the width and a different size for the length.

I printed my directions without the pictures, which used only 6 pages.
