Adapted for crochet.
No dpn projects for me, ever.
Nor two circulars, nor magic loop.

Two smaller chicks: single str, smaller hook.
Bigger chicken: double str, larger hook.

Crochet adaptation:
Body: MC (worked bottom to top).
MR 6.
Rnd 1: sc inc 6x. 12 st
Rnd 2: (sc, sc inc) 6x. 18 st
Rnd 3: sc acr. 18 st
Rnd 4: (2 sc, sc inc) 6x. 24 st
Rnds 5, 6, 7, 8: sc acr. 24 st
Rnd 9: (2 sc, sc dec) 6x. 18 st
Rnd 10: (sc, sc dec) 6x. 12 st
Rnds 11, 12, 13, 14: sc acr. 12 st
Insert a small amount of stuffing into the piece.
Rnd 15: sc dec 6x. 6 st
F/O.
Close up stitches by drawing yarn end tightly through them.

Eyes:
black: embroider eyes onto the narrow head section, with two small horizontal stitches for each, placed about three stitches down from the top of the head and spaced two stitches apart.

Beak:
contrast yellow:
embroider the beak with two longer horizontal stitches, placed between and one stitch down from the eyes.

Comb:
contrast gold:
ch 2, fsc, fhdc, fsc. F/O.
sew to crown of head.

Wings: MC (make 2)
ch 2.
3sc 2nd ch from hook.
sl st in same chain. F/O.
sew to sides, one row above first decrease round.

Feet:
contrast yellow:
ch 2, fsc 12. F/O.

Thread through the bottom front side of the body, going in and coming out at the second increase round, and spaced about 5 stitches apart.
Pull through the body, so that an equal length sticks out (about 4 fsc st) from each side.
Weave in each loose end and form foot by making a loop.
