Notes

I am a big fan of the lovely Ms. Denise. She has a lovely assortment of great designs. I’ve made her Procragratification Infinity Scarf/Cowl and The Vesterbro Infinity Scarf, The Vesterbro Del To Scarf patterns for super bulkies a few times.

This design is unusual for a couple reasons.

  1. creative method of working alternate yarn every row makes a beautiful effect.

  2. use of crochet to finish the side edges. Not everyone knows how to crochet or some may not want to do that. This design needs a side edge finish because of the way the two yarns are carried along the side. If one doesn’t want to do the crochet edge, one could work a few stitches on both edges in garter stitch.

Have had this yarn duo for this design set up for three years. Very happy to be making it up finally.

Issue:
Patt gauge = 8 st / 4”, US 13, cast on 40, 12” width.
Mathematically, that works out to 20” wide.

With US 13, cast on 40, I got a gauge of 12 st / 4”. The fabric was okay, but the pretty contrast of the two yarns was not apparent. In addition, my scarf was 14” wide. The ultimate length would be unpredictable.

Loftier is better to obtain the texture desired.

For gauge 8 st / 4”, one needs a bigger needle.
For me, even US 15 10.0 mm wasn’t enough.
With US 17 12.0 mm, I got 10 st / 4”.
That’s the best I can do, more importantly, the look is the desired one.
Typically, I have to go down needle sizes to obtain gauge.

In any event, if you don’t usually make a swatch for scarves, I recommend making a quick one for this project so you’re sure to be happy with it.

I cast on 30 for 12” width at 10 st / 4”.
